Stephanie Kennedy and Dawn Silver are the co-founders of Panther Cheer Athletics.

Stephanie KennedyStephanie was raised in Richmond and completed her B.Sc. and B.Ed. at UBC.  She also has a M.A. in Educational Leadership specializing in curriculum and instruction from San Diego State University.  Stephanie is the very proud mother of four children, three of whom are athletes in the program.

Stephanie came to All Star cheer from an extensive gymnastics background.  She was first an athlete and then a coach with the Richmond Gymnastics Association where she coached all ages and levels of athletes from preschool to the Provincial level.  Stephanie then seized an opportunity to coach National level athletes with Delta Gymnastics where she remained until she entered the teacher education program at UBC.  Stephanie was a high school math and science teacher in Richmond for many years before retiring from teaching to focus on raising her family and growing Panthers.

Stephanie has her First Aid certification, Level 3 NCCP certification in gymnastics, her Level 5 USASF credentials in stunting, baskets and tosses (highest level possible) and her AACCA and NCSSE coaching and safety certifications in cheerleading.  Stephanie is also actively involved in the BC Cheerleading Association as both past co-chair and a member of judging committee in which she helps to train and certify the cheerleading judges in BC.  Stephanie has also been actively involved with the ISASF and responsible for the USASF credentialing of many of the cheerleading coaches and athletes in BC.

Stephanie has received many awards and recognition for her work.  She is an Ethel Tibbits ‘Woman of Distinction’ award winner, a BC Cheerleading Association Coach of the Year and most recently recognized in 2014 as a Richmond Sports Award winner in the ‘Builder’ category.

 

DSC_0237Dawn has been involved in the sport of cheerleading since 1986, first as a cheerleader then as a coach.  She has cheered for the Renfrew Trojans and the Surrey Rams Community teams, her high school program at Windermere Secondary and lastly for Simon Fraser University. Dawn has coached for a number of cheerleading programs including all of the ones she cheered with.  Dawn is the very proud mother of 3 and her oldest is a member of our Mini team.

In 2003, Dawn joined Stephanie in coaching the McRoberts cheerleading teams.  She helped the senior high school team to 2nd place finishes at the PCA National Cheerleading Championships in 2003 and 2004, in the small varsity division as well at a 2nd place finish at the Aloha Spirit International Championships held in Hawaii.

Dawn has her USASF Level 5 tumbling, stunting and baskets certification as well as her AACCA and NCSSE safety and coaching certification.  She has her level 1 First Aid and has been active as a judge within the BC Cheerleading Association. Dawn has been a very active voice on the BCCA since its inception and is currently sitting on the executive as past-chair and as the Insurance Representative.

Both Stephanie and Dawn PASSIONATELY believe that their All Star cheer program, PANTHER CHEER ATHLETICS, is a powerful vehicle through which their young athletes learn many important life lessons and skills that guide them on to becoming exceptional young adults.  They have personally seen the positive and lasting effect being a member of Panthers has had on their athletes who have now gone on to become amazing young adults.
